Technical Writer / Editor / Research Analyst
Location
: Germantown, Maryland
Responsibilities:
Work closely with engineers, scientists, and others to create, revise, and edit technical documents and deliverables.
Develop and write presentations, reports, briefing papers, and other products to support various programs and clients.
Be proficient in writing and reviewing complex technical documents in subject areas related to environment, health, safety, and security.
Provide lead support on internal controls, Financial Manager’s Financial Integrity Act, and Agency Financial Report coordination.
Write technical information in easily understandable language.
Work independently on assigned topic(s) with support from a Project Lead and Technical Editor.
Contact subject matter experts when necessary for additional details.
Manage multiple document projects at the same time, under challenging environment and response schedules.
Maintain initiative, flexibility, and cooperation in a team environment
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree preferred, with 2–5 years of experience in the fields of Engineering/Science with an emphasis on health, safety, and security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
Excellent research skills.
Proficiency in the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures that require a broad range of technical expertise.
Demonstrated writing and editing skills in the creation of documents, plans, procedures, and proposals.
Ability to work with subject matter experts to obtain technical information and modify/translate it for a non-technical audience for clear, precise communication products.
Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced word processing using Microsoft Word, as well as Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Willingness and ability to work directly with clients in an environment that changes rapidly and requires occasional long hours.
Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
Able to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers.
Department of Energy (DOE) site access will require the qualified candidate be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance. The candidate’s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of obtaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
Pre-employment testing for the absence of any illegal substances will be conducted as a requirement for obtaining a security clearance and access to DOE sites. The candidate’s written consent to conduct such a test will be required as a condition of employment.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Energy.
Self-directed and able to define and achieve goals with little supervision.
