Project Enhancement Corporation Supports the MELE DEFY Golf Tournament to Advance Cancer Research

September 1, 2026: Project Enhancement Corporation was proud to support and participate in the 3rd Annual MELE DEFY Golf Tournament, an event dedicated to raising awareness and funding for cancer research. Hosted by MELE Associates Inc., the tournament honors the life and legacy of Wendy Chioji, who’s courageous battle with cancer continues to inspire efforts to advance life-saving research.

The tournament brought together sponsors, supporters and community members for a day of friendly competition and a shared commitment to supporting cancer research.  The event opened with remarks from MELE President Al Chioji and Dr. Roychowdhury, a leading cancer researcher whose work is focused on advancing innovative technologies, treatments and approaches to cancer care.

This year, the DEFY Tournament raised more than $140,000, bringing its three-year fundraising total to $314,000. One hundred percent of event proceeds support Pelotonia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating cancer research. Funds raised through the tournament have supported groundbreaking initiatives, including a nationwide decentralized clinical trial that enables patients to participate in research from their local communities rather than traveling to specialized research centers.

With approximately 25 percent of cancer diagnoses involving rare forms of the disease, investments in research are critical to expanding treatment options and improving outcomes for patients nationwide. Events like the DEFY Tournament help advance that mission by increasing awareness and providing direct support for innovative research efforts.

“Not too long ago, my daughter and I were simultaneously diagnosed with cancer. Hand in hand we supported each other and emerged as survivors. I understand all too well the impact cancer can have on physical and mental wellbeing of an individual, and her cancer was much more painful to me than mine. Wendy’s story is emblematic of those that go through this disease with grace and defiance. That energy will ultimately be this disease’s undoing. It was a real honor to team with our business partner, MELE, on such an initiative of profound importance. Thank you MELE for the opportunity.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               – Rick Martinez, President/CEO

“I’m honored to support organizations and events that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I remain committed to doing our part in the fight against cancer and supporting efforts that bring hope to individuals, families, and communities affected by this disease:

                                                                                                                                                                                                                    – Keair Queen, Vice President of Information System Management

As a proud sponsor, PEC was honored to support the DEFY Tournament and its commitment to advancing cancer research. Supporting initiatives that strengthen communities and improve lives reflects our broader commitment to making a positive and lasting impact.

“The event was a great opportunity to share quality time with partners and colleagues and have fun while supporting such an important cause – rare cancers are so prevalent but never funded at nearly the levels of more common cancers.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                     – John Neave, Vice President of Project and Acquisition Services

This event would not have been possible without the dedication of MELE Associates, event organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and participants who came together to support this important cause. Most importantly, we honor the memory of Wendy Chioji and the countless individuals and families impacted by cancer. Through continued support for research and innovation, we move one step closer to improving outcomes and bringing hope to those facing this disease.
