Security Specialist EHSS 1.2 ITP

Location:    Washington, D.C. (Forrestal Building/Hybrid)

The Security Specialist supports the Office of Insider Threat Program (EHSS-1.2) within the Department of Energy (DOE). This position provides mission support to a program critical to the Department of Energy’s security mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with tracking actions taken in response to findings and recommendations relating to independent assessments of the Department’s Insider Threat Program.
  • Serve as a liaison between the DOE’s Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence Analysis and Referral Center (IN-ARC) and the Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) in assisting the ARC on an ad-hoc basis with Security issues that come up within the ARC as it relates to the Insider Threat Program (ITP).
  • Co-Lead the Threat Working Group, assist with ITP Training and Awareness, and assist with Field Engagements as well as external outreach.
  • Assist with monthly Local Insider Threat Working Group (LITWG) calls, including chairing the meeting from time to time.

Required Qualifications:

  • The individual must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in such fields as one of the engineering disciplines, law enforcement, or security management.
  • Must have ten (10) years of experience within the field of nuclear safeguards and security, and shall possess an excellent working knowledge of the protection of classified matter, computer security, physical security, information security, special nuclear materials, protective forces, and the protection of property and assets.
  • Understand classified materials handling and protection requirements.
  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in office administration and records management activities.
  • Mastery of MS Office suite of applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in performing office activities such as word processing, spreadsheets, correspondence preparation, editing, and scheduling.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to work independently.
  • Customer service-oriented, experienced in interacting directly with clients and ability to foresee client’s needs and provide solutions and recommendations.
  • Possess exceptional analytical capabilities.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment that changes rapidly and requires occasional variance in hours.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers.
  • DOE site access will require the qualified candidate to be a U.S. citizen with at minimum a Secret clearance with preference to an ACTIVE DOE Q security clearance or DOD TS equivalent. The candidate’s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of maintaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal substances will be conducted as a requirement for ongoing access to DOE sites. The candidate’s written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the DOE/NNSA complex.
  • Certified Project Management Professional.
  • Experience with SharePoint, Office 365, and Microsoft Office suite of systems.
  • Experience with MS Teams, Cisco WebEx, and other virtual meeting systems.
